Overview

Andhra Pradesh is the 5th largest state in India with Geographic Areaof2, 75, 069 km2 (8.4% of the country). It was formed on November 01, 1956 as first linguistic based state in the country. It is the gate way from north to south India and is known as rice bowl of the country. Hyderabad is it capital, which is known to be mini India with all the cultures, traditions and people of the country

Literacy (Census 2011):

  1. Literacy 67.66% ( 75.56% male and 59.74% female)
  2. Andhra Pradesh’s literacy is lesser than the national literacy 74%. AP stood 33rd rank in male literacy and 29th rank in female literacy among 35 states.
  3. For Males: Hyderabad has the highest literacy 84% and Mahabubnagar has the lowest literacy rate 66%
  4. For Females: Hyderabad has the highest literacy 78% and Mahabubnagar has the lowest literacy rate 46%






Sex Ratio (Census 2011):

  1. Sex ratio of adults 992 seems to be better than national average 942.
  2. Child sex ratio is 943, which is an alarming situation and showing discrimination towards girl children.

Learning Levels: (ASER 2010) and Azim Premji Foundation (2005 to 2010)

  • 15% of students of classes 1 and 2 cannot recognize the letters and numbers.
  • 31% of students of classes 3 to 5 cannot read the class 1 test.
  • 36% of students of classes 3 to 5 cannot do subtraction.
  • Competency based learning assessments of Azim Premji Foundation in Andhra Pradesh show that
    pace of learning of children remained same despite placing interventions to teachers and inputs to
    schools
