Overview

New Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) was founded in 2003 to promote a federation of over 900 street vendor collectives, with a combined membership of over 10 lakhs. They played a significant role in the passing of the Street Vendors Act 2014 and continue to work on its implementation by supporting local collectives with leadership building, financial management, advocacy and training.

Mitr Sanketa was founded in 2005 with an initial focus on rescuing child domestic workers and evolved towards supporting the rights of women domestic workers and registered the Domestic Worker Rights Union in 2009. They support retired and old domestic workers through their ‘Adopt a Granny’ programme and run evening classes for children of domestic workers.

Montfort Social Institute was founded in 2000, working with informal sector workers, slum communities, and transgender people. They have collectivised over 7000 domestic workers and specialise in training citizens on housing schemes and the right to access spaces within cities. They initiated networks for housing rights and informal sector workers.

WIWRF network members primarily work with Dalit and Adivasi communities in a rights-based approach. They have a strong community presence and mobilisation. They are working with CLRA to address labour rights violations of tribal migrant agriculture workers in Aravalli-Satpura to Gujarat migration corridor through West India Workers Rights Forum.

Institute of Social Research and Development (ISRD) was founded in 1997 with a focus on education, gender issues, child protection, and informal sector workers. They have so far collectivised more than 7000 informal sector workers, linked 4600 workers to various welfare boards, and provided skill development to 2400 youth. T

Geography: Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh

Agrasar was founded in 2010 with an initial focus on skilling, than on education of migrant children. In 2017, they started working on labour rights, as part of the skill development and placement programme of the Odisha government, and then expanded to Gurugram. They have linked more than 2500 workers to social security and formal financial services and provided mediation and legal aid services to 600 workers.

Association of Rural Education and Development Services (AREDS) was founded in 1981, working on issues of informal workers’ rights, women’s economic empowerment, education, organic farming, child safety, land rights, bonded labour and local governance. They have linked workers with social security boards, secured the release of bonded workers, and run the Childline in Karur. 

Geography: Karur, Tamil Nadu

Vaan Muhil Trust was founded in 1996, working on caste-based violence in southern Tamil Nadu. They focus on women and children, addressing child labour and moved on to address other informal sector issues. They now collaborate with partner NGOs in 10 districts in Tamil Nadu for campaign activities on labour rights, child rights, women's rights, human rights, bonded labour and human trafficking issues.

Integrated Rural Community Development Society (IRCDS) was founded in 1986 to support educational programs for agricultural workers. Their focus then became the eradication of all forms of modern slavery, including vulnerable brick kiln workers in central Tamil Nadu. They enable improved workplace safety and social security.
