DEED was established in 1980 to promote the empowerment of Adivasi communities in Mysore, Karnataka. Their initial work focused on the release of bonded labourers, education, basic amenities, and obtaining land for cultivation on a group basis. Subsequently, they moved into working on forest rights and local governance.
