Public Lecture Series-Child Citizen and the Nation

2017 Dec 02, Saturday
Ginserv Auditorium

About the Talk:
Despite the cultural value of children as subjects of emotional affect, children have lacked a political constituency and their conditions in the nation are a matter of concern. The promulgation of a range of rights (education, health, safety, food) has not resolved the problems of malnourishment, conditions of child labour, rampant sexual and physical abuse, unsafe living and working conditions, and denial of access to health and education continue. Unless children are recognised and treated as equal citizens and the range of interlinked social and economic disadvantages are addressed, the conditions of them being sacrificial subjects will continue.
