Vikalp was founded in 1996 to work with tribal women beyond education in Gujarat. They played an important role in introducing the Nari Adalat model. In their work with single women, they found that many were lesbian or bisexual. Since the early 2000s, they moved towards working with these women and trans people across Gujarat through a network of community members.
