Picture Interaction:

What do you see in the picture? (Responses in the students’ mother tongue can be accepted)

What is the colour of the frog?

Where is the frog?

Subtext:

Elicit the following responses from the students and write them on the board:

  • A frog.
  • It is green.
  • The frog is under the log.

Narration:

Once there was a boy named Raju. His uncle had a farmhouse. He had gone to meet his uncle. At first, he met Green frog. He had no friends in that village. So, he spent more time with the green frog.

Raju: Good morning, my dear green frog.

Green frog: Croak! Croak!.

Interaction:

What sound does the frog make? (Allow the students to make the sound)

What was the response of the frog?

Why didn’t it reply in Raju’s language?

Did it wish “good morning” to Raju?

Subtext:

Write the responses of the students on the board as shown below:

“Croak…croak.”

Reading:

The teacher should make the students read the first stanza of the poem.

Narration:

Raju went to the pond and saw his friend Ducky duck. They were meeting after a long time. So, he was very happy.

Raju: Hi Ducky duck! How are you?

Ducky duck: Quack! Quack!

Show the picture in page no. 160 to the students.

Interaction:

Where do you see the duck in the picture? (pond/waterside)

What sound does the duck make?

Did the duck tell “I am fine” to Raju?

Subtext:

The duck is on the waterside.

The teacher should make the students read the second stanza of the poem.

Continue narration:

Raju went to meet Pinky pig and asked him to join him for dinner. Pinky pig became very happy. Pinky pig introduced his new friends, three little puppies, to Raju.

Interaction:

Was Pinky pig happy to be invited to dinner?

Did it tell “I will join you for dinner” to Raju?

Subtext:

Write the responses of the students on the blackboard.

“Wee, wee.”

Pinky pig replied “Wee, wee” instead of saying “I will join you for dinner”.

Reading:

The teacher should make the students read the third stanza of the poem.

Continue the narration:

Raju asked the little puppies to take a walk with him.

Raju: Hi, my cute puppies! Shall we go for a walk?

Puppies: Bow, bow.

Interaction:

How many puppies are there?

What is the name of the puppies’ house?

Did the puppies tell Raju that they will take a walk with him?

How did the puppies respond?

Subtext:

Write the responses of the students on the board.

Discussion:

How do you feel when everyone talks at the same time?

Can you hear all of them?

What will you do when that happens?

Elicit the responses from the students and write them down on the blackboard.

Ask the students to read the fifth stanza of the poem.

Individual reading should be followed by collaborative reading, and, finally, the teacher should read it aloud for the students. In the last instance, the students are to listen to the teacher.

Activity:

Teacher’s guide:

The teacher should make the students match the animals with the houses of the animals. The students should also write the name of those houses inside the box.

Step 1: Ask the students to identify the animal’s name.

Step 2: Make the students to match the name with their respective houses. Step 3: Finally, write the name of the house.
