PUPPY AND I (POEM) 

Lesson Plan 

DAY 1 

INTERACTION 

  1. Do you have pets at home? 
  2. Which animals do you have? 
  3. Do you play with them? 
  4. Do you love them? 
  5. What kind of animals can you not keep at home? Name a few of them. 
  6. What are such animals called? 

Elicit responses from the students, and write on the blackboard (BB) ‘Wild animals’

Shall we listen to a story now? 

NARRATION 

Little Santosh was sitting in his room, while his mother was busy doing some work. 

‘Oh! I feel so bored,’ complained Santosh. ‘No school. No friends to play with. No homework. What shall I do now?’ 

Upset, Santosh went to his mother. 

‘Amma, I’m bored. Can I go out for a walk?’ he asked. 

‘Alright, Santosh. But, be careful. And, come back fast; don’t be late.’ 

‘Sure, Amma.’ 

As Santosh went out for a walk, he reached the road.

A Man and a Boy 

As Santosh was walking, he met a man on the road. 

Santosh looked at the well-dressed man, wearing long trousers, a coat, a tie and shoes. 

‘He looks like an important person. But, where is he going? Today is a holiday after all. I will ask him,’ Santosh thought. 

‘Hello, Sir,’ Santosh greeted. 

‘Hi, boy,’ replied the man.

Santosh kept walking, singing happily all the way. ‘La la laa laa.’ 

Suddenly, he heard some footsteps approaching. 

‘Who could it be?’ he thought. 

He walked ahead, listening to the footsteps. 

What do you think he saw? 

He saw a big brown horse! 

‘Hello, horse! Where are you going?’ 

‘Hey, little boy! I’m going down to the village,” the horse said, looking down at Santosh. “I plan to fetch some hay. I’m hungry.’ 

‘Okay! Please keep going, Mr. Horse.’ 

‘Will you come with me to the village?’ the horse asked. 

‘No, no. Not today. I will come with you some other day.’ 

Santosh waved at the horse and started to walk again. 

READING 

Ask the students to read the second stanza of the poem, following the reading protocols.

Santosh started to walk again. Suddenly, he spotted a tiny little creature running past him.
