Making a Difference as a Teacher

Learning is a continuous process. As a teacher, every time I see or learn something new, I enthusiastically take it to my school. I have always experimented with different teaching methods to make the learning process interesting for my students. The more the students are exposed to an environment conducive to learning, the better they learn.

An important aim of education is to carve out good citizens. With a focus on this aim,  we conducted a children’s parliament election in our school and elected cabinet ministers with various responsibilities. With the help of the ministers we initiated a ‘school development programme’ and we have found a considerable change in the students’ behaviour. It became an inspiration for us and we are continuing the process this year as well.

Introduction of badges and house points system helped develop a healthy competitive spirit among students. As a result, students took initiative in maintaining cleanliness in school, wearing clean uniforms, speaking in English etc.

My friends and I have started a ‘bow song’ group called ‘villisai vannampado’. We have tried to use bow songs as a tool for creating environmental awareness. To boost school enrolments we have also been performing in other schools.

 

To conclude, a teacher should always be on the search for different methods, tools and strategies that can be tried in the classroom. It is always good to keep trying new methods; if they work,  good enough, if not, it will help us to adapt and change.
